Square, Circle, Triangle
For this assignment, I had to create recognizable pictures with only black and white basic shapes. With this being my first assignment, I believe it gives a good picture of my illustrator skills when I first started this class. Looking through my projects in this blog, you will be able to see how much I've learned so far.

Red Bell Pepper Gradient Mesh
This pepper was my first gradient mesh assignment. I have to admit it was pretty frustrating at times because it is very time consuming. But at the end I believe I achieved my gradient goal pretty well. If I were to go back and change some things, I would make the pepper sections blend a little better.

For the live trace assignment, our goal was to learn how to use the automatic live trace tool in Illustrator. We began by sketching images on paper, traced over them with a dark pen or marker, scanned it into the computer, and simply clicked the live trace button in Illustrator. This assignment was really fun for me because I love doodling in my notebooks, and this was just doing the same thing, but adding color on the computer.
Zoo Icon Assignment
For this project, I was asked to create a series of graphic icons for signs that will be placed around a new zoo. The signs will point visitors to different animal groups around the zoo. In order to craft these iconic shapes in Illustrator, I was required to use the basics shapes I already knew how to create along with the pen tool. If I could change something about these icons, I would make the bird and alligator a little more recognizable. Also, I would use more white instead of using a lot of outlines.
SADA T-Shirt Illustration
The Department of Studio and Digital Arts at Liberty University recently was looking for possible new t-shirt designs. Our job for this assignment was to come up with a simple design that could be recognizable for the new department of arts. I really like how simple the design is. If I could change something about this project, I would make the "SADA" on the left a little more recognizable.

King's Players Logo
The King's Players, a drama ministry team based out of the Liberty Communications Department was looking for a new logo. This logo will go on publications, on the side of the King's Players tour trailer, etc. I really like how my design came out. I can imagine this logo on t-shirts, pens, & sides of vans. I don't think there is anything I would change about this design.

Photorealistic Product Illustration
Using a photograph as a reference and template, I rendered this illustration of a Tresemme shampoo bottle using all of the tools I have learned to date in Illustrator. Specific tools that I used in this project include the pen tool, the gradient mesh, and the blend tool. My favorite part of this assignment was the bottle cap. It turned out so well and looks exactly like the image. If I could re-do something, it would be the leave because I had a hard time making them look believable.
Music Poster
This is a concert series poster that illustrates the country genre. This project required researching visual country music styles to begin developing ideas, sketching ideas, and rendering an illustration using old and new skills learned in Adobe Illustrator. If I could change something about this project, I would bring a little more music into the design. It does have a western feel to it, but after looking at it so much, I realized I probably could've done more.
Literary Illustration
For this project, I created an original illustration for a passage from my favorite poem listed above. This was a great assignment for us to begin developing our own style of illustration. I really enjoyed this project because I imagined something I could frame and put in my house along with the poem. If I could change something about this illustration, I might have experimented with the background a little more to make it a little softer.
Stylistic Self-Portrait
This was our final project in this class, and we were asked to create our own self-portrait in a style from art history. I chose pop-art, and researched many different styles from various artists. The main tools I used were the pen and pencil tool. I like how this project turned out, but the only down side was it printed differently from the computer screen. If I could change something about it, I would figure out a better way to do my lips. Even though it sounds crazy, I worked so long and hard on these simple lips and am still not completely happy with them.
